Introductory Post

Giovanni Fillari August 1, 2017

Welcome to the first blog edition for Coffee Feed PDX. For the foreseeable future, you will see a monthly-ish blog that talks about the nuances of the coffee shops that I visit. Portland definitely has a lot of them to explore, but EVERY one of them has something unique to offer. Whether it's the decor, baristas, location, origin of the shop, etc.

The Origin

To be honest, I was visiting coffee shops a lot. There were a few shops that I would consider myself a regular at, but I wanted to see what others had to offer. There are 3 key reasons as to why I am always in a coffee shop:

  • Coffee shops bring about the feeling of tranquility. Whether it was the music, the atmosphere, or the coffee itself, going to a coffee shop was the proverbial "pause" button for life.
  • I've loved coffee since I was a kid. It was considered a dessert within our family. Ever since the age of 15, it has been its own food group in my daily diet.
  • I'm entirely too lazy to brew coffee at home. If I brewed coffee at home, like a responsible adult, I wouldn't have a feed strictly dedicated to curating glamour shots of coffee cups.

The Purpose

As mentioned earlier, EVERY shop has something to offer. A lot of people get wrapped up into visiting what's conveniently located in their neighborhoods, or to the corporations that have drive-thrus. It's easy to get caught up in the day to day, and to look at your coffee cup as something that you need, as opposed to something as you enjoy. The Coffee Feed was made to shine the light on those locations that may not get too much recognition, and also dig deeper on those places that do get a lot of attention. I've met a lot of baristas and shop owners, and they are much more than someone who provides you your daily fix. A lot of these people are *literally* pouring all of their time, energy, and assets into your cups for your enjoyment.

The Focus

Every month, we will have a special project focusing on something coffee related. My hopes are to open your eyes about a local coffee shop you may never have visited. Scroll down to see this month's focus. The music selection is one of the most integral parts to a good atmosphere in a coffee shop. Yea, coffee is important, and so are the baristas, but music can really attract the casual visitor...or drive them away. I've compiled a list of songs through Spotify that serve as the backdrop of my visits. The playlist is full of down-tempo, jazz and melodic beats. Essentially, they are all easy to listen to and not too distracting. You can take a listen on the "Playlist" page at the top. Expect another blog post next month with the next project. Enjoy!
